Today’s meeting with Clarence Henderson wasn’t just a conversation – it was a defining moment that crystallized my vision for Greensboro’s future. As I sat with this civil rights legend who helped change history at that Woolworth lunch counter in 1960, I felt the weight of responsibility and the fire of possibility for our city’s future.
Listening to Clarence share his experiences – from the brave sit-ins to his military service, from his evolution as a community leader to his current role as a voice for conservative values – I realized that Greensboro isn’t just facing challenges; we’re facing opportunities that demand bold, principled leadership.
When Clarence told me that ‘Politicians are a dime a dozen, but real leaders are priceless,’ it struck me to my core because that’s exactly what Greensboro needs right now – not another politician making empty promises, but a leader who will roll up their sleeves and tackle our city’s real issues head-on.
I see our city council’s current disconnect from the community—their reluctance to listen to concerns about neighborhood conservation overlays, their slow response to economic development opportunities, and their seeming indifference to the struggles of local businesses. This isn’t just frustrating; it’s holding our city back from its potential.
Every young family that leaves Greensboro for better opportunities elsewhere, every business that struggles because of bureaucratic red tape, every neighborhood that feels ignored by city leadership – these aren’t just statistics to me. They’re calls to action. As Clarence and I discussed the importance of property ownership and economic empowerment, I envisioned a Greensboro where young professionals choose to build their futures and businesses thrive. Every neighborhood has a voice that’s heard and respected.
Clarence’s wisdom about the importance of knowing our history while boldly facing our future resonates deeply with my mission. We need leadership that honors Greensboro’s rich history of courage and progress—from the Woolworth sit-ins to the present day—while fearlessly embracing the challenges of tomorrow.
This isn’t just about winning a seat on the city council in November 2025. It’s about transforming how our city government serves its people. It’s about bringing transparency to closed-door decisions, efficiency to sluggish processes, and hope to communities that have felt forgotten.
Clarence Henderson showed me that one person, standing up with conviction and courage, can help change the course of history. Now, inspired by his example and armed with a deep understanding of our city’s needs, I’m more determined than ever to be the leader Greensboro needs. Not just a voice in council meetings but a force for positive change. Not just a vote on issues but a champion for our city’s future.
The path ahead won’t be easy, but as Clarence’s story shows, the most worthwhile battles rarely are. With the wisdom of leaders like him guiding me and the best interests of every Greensboro resident driving me forward, I’m ready to fight for the vibrant, prosperous, unified Greensboro we all know is possible. The time for real leadership is now, and I’m prepared to answer that call.
