Downtown Greensboro Booms: Westin Hotel and Carroll at Parkside Set to Transform the Skyline

By Nicky Smith

Nicky Smith, Greensboro City Council candidate, standing proudly with a vision to enhance public safety, strengthen community partnerships, and build a brighter future for Greensboro.

Greensboro is poised for significant economic growth, with two major hotel projects planned for downtown, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to revitalization and job creation.

Construction on a new Westin Hotel is expected to begin this year. Monty Hagler of RLF Communications confirmed that the city has issued a building permit, and the developers, Elm Street Hotel Partners, are preparing to start work. While an exact start date hasn’t been set, Hagler stated that a general contractor is in place and is currently interviewing subcontractors.

The new Westin Hotel will be located at 203 S. Elm St., adjacent to the February One parking deck, which was constructed to support the hotel. Scheduled to open in 2026, the hotel will feature 180 rooms, 22,000 square feet of event space, and 6,500 square feet of outdoor space, including a rooftop bar—a highlight for visitors and locals alike.

In addition to the Westin, Carroll at Parkside, a mixed-use development by The Carroll Companies, is set to enhance the downtown skyline further. Located at the intersection of Eugene and Bellemeade streets, across from the Greensboro Grasshoppers ballpark, the development will include an eight-story AC Marriott Hotel with 161 rooms, 348 luxury apartments, a rooftop bar, and 20,000 square feet of retail space.

While initial plans suggested construction for Carroll at Parkside might begin in late 2024 or early 2025, Desmyne Gaines, brand marketing manager for The Carroll Companies, noted there are no new timeline updates. Once underway, the project is expected to take 24 to 30 months to complete.

These developments signal a new era of growth for downtown Greensboro, creating business opportunities and fostering community engagement. As a City Council candidate, I am committed to promoting initiatives that bring jobs, enhance economic development, and make Greensboro a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.
