Greensboro is at a crossroads. Our city has seen significant changes over the past decade, but as we move forward, we face serious challenges that require bold leadership, fresh ideas, and real-world business experience. The departure of long-time City Council member Nancy Hoffmann marks the end of an era. It is now time for a new generation of leaders to step up—leaders who understand what it takes to run a business, create jobs, and make responsible decisions for taxpayers. That is why I, Nicky Smith, am stepping up to serve as your voice on Greensboro’s City Council for District 4.
For too long, career politicians have dominated Greensboro’s City Council, and while they may have meant well, they have failed to address the core economic and safety concerns of our residents. Greensboro is growing, but with growth comes complexity. Businesses need an environment where they can thrive without bureaucratic red tape. Families need safe neighborhoods and strong schools. Our city government must be accountable and transparent, ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
I have spent my career running a business, creating jobs, and making tough decisions—experience that is sorely lacking on our current City Council. Greensboro doesn’t need more politicians who have spent years sitting on city boards. We need proven leaders who understand financial responsibility, economic development, and what it takes to move our city forward.
Our city is facing pressing issues:
Public Safety: Crime has been on the rise, and we need to ensure our police department has the resources and support necessary to protect our citizens. This includes real cooperation with federal agencies like ICE to ensure our laws are enforced.
Economic Growth: While Greensboro has seen major investments, we must do more to support small businesses and entrepreneurs. Job creation isn’t just about big corporations—it’s about making it easier for everyone to succeed.
Taxpayer Accountability: City Council must stop wasteful spending and ensure every dollar is spent effectively to improve Greensboro’s quality of life.
Infrastructure & Development: Smart planning is critical to maintaining Greensboro’s charm while preparing for growth. We need leaders who will advocate for responsible, balanced development.
The upcoming election presents a clear choice. My opponent, Adam Marshall, has spent years on various boards and commissions, but bureaucratic experience does not equate to strong leadership. Greensboro needs a council member who understands the firsthand challenges businesses and families face. I have built a business, balanced budgets, and created jobs—an experience that Greensboro needs now more than ever.
Nancy Hoffmann herself has admitted that it’s time for a new generation of leadership. But Greensboro doesn’t just need younger leaders—it needs better leaders—leaders who are willing to challenge the status quo, bring fresh ideas, and work for the people, not for political insiders.
I am running for Greensboro City Council because I believe in our city and its potential. I believe we can create a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Greensboro. But we cannot afford more of the same—we need a bold, business-minded approach to leadership. I’m ready to bring that change.
Join me in the fight for a better Greensboro. It’s time to move forward with strong leadership, not more of the status quo.
Greensboro’s future is bright, and as always, I remain committed to ensuring that our city’s growth benefits everyone.
Let’s build the future our city deserves. Greensboro is ready for a new era—let’s get to work.
