Over the past four years, our community has faced challenges that were once unimaginable—gang violence, deadly drugs infiltrating our streets, and a rise in hate-filled rhetoric on college campuses. These issues aren’t just statistics; they are stories of lives lost, families torn apart, and neighborhoods living in fear.
As leaders, we are responsible for ensuring that Greensboro is a safe place to live, work, and raise a family. Yet, in recent years, the City Council has failed to provide the kind of leadership and support our local police force needs to combat these growing threats effectively. It’s time for a change that prioritizes safety, accountability, and unwavering support for those who put their lives on the line to protect us.
Every resident in Greensboro has felt the impact of rising crime. It’s the mother who fears letting her children walk to school, the business owner who invests in extra security, and the college student who wonders if their campus is still a safe space for learning and growth. Violent crime, gang activity, and the spread of deadly drugs like fentanyl are no longer distant issues; they’re right here, on our streets and in our neighborhoods.
Gang activity has become a major contributor to crime in Greensboro. These networks prey on vulnerable youth, drawing them into a cycle of violence and destruction. Entire neighborhoods are affected, as families fear being caught in the crossfire. Without a coordinated effort to dismantle these gangs and provide alternatives for at-risk youth, the problem will only continue to grow.
The rise of fentanyl and other deadly drugs is devastating Greensboro’s families. These substances are cheap, potent, and widely available, claiming lives at an alarming rate. Our youth are particularly at risk, with dealers targeting them in schools, parks, and even online.
